Om Puri, one of the most celebrated actors of India, died of a massive heart attack at his home. Puri returned home after a shoot the previous evening and after his door bell went unanswered the next morning, following which his driver raised an alarm.
It was confirmed by his friends from the film fraternity, that the actor succumbed to a heart attack.
In an illustrious career of about four decades, and over 250 films with his debut in the 1976 Marathi film Ghashiram Kotwal, based on a play by Vijay Tendulkar and rising to fame with his spectacular performance in the ground-breaking films like Ardh Satya,Aakrosh,and Paar. He even acted in Hollywood movies- City of Joy (1992) with Patrick Swayze, Wolf (1994) with Jack Nicholson and The Ghost and the Darkness (1996) with Val Kilmer. He played General Zia-ul-Haq in Charlie Wilson’s War, starring Tom Hanks and Julia Roberts.
